This workshop is geared toward dog sport competitors and pet dog owners aiming higher! This seminar is also great for professional dog trainers who work with challenging handler/dog teams. \nGrounded in learning theory\, we will explore such topics as how contextual cues and accidental behavior chains can inadvertently teach our dogs behaviors that we deem unnecessary or inappropriate. Learn the difference between a behavior loop and a behavior chain and how to intentionally build these up — or break them! Turn distractions into cues for better behavior and learn useful foundation behaviors to improve connection.  \nThis seminar includes video for your benefit! Emma will record the working sessions and send each participant videos of their own dog. SUMMARY:Shade Whitesel Seminars: Location/Arousal Specific Marker Cues & Reducing Reinforcement
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 24th: Location & Arousal Specific Marker Cues\nSunday\, August 25th: Reducing Reinforcement\n9AM-5PM each day \nAttend one day or both – the choice is yours! \nSaturday: Location & Arousal Specific Marker Cues\nReinforcement drives behavior\, right? What if your dog cares what type of reinforcement they get and likes some more than others? What if specific types of reinforcement carry different arousal/excitement and you can take advantage of that in your training\, whether sports skills or for general behaviors? And in the meantime\, how about adding clarity to where and how to collect the reinforcement\, something that highly motivated toy dogs could definitely benefit from. \nWe’ve all been using a clicker or a verbal word like Yes to mean “collect reinforcement” to our dog. Now let’s think about slicing up that clicker and making it more concise and clear to your learner dog. Having verbal cues that tell your dog where to collect reinforcement and what exactly that reinforcement is can be so mind blowing and complicated for the handler\, but it clears things up and makes things so much simpler for the dog! The dog can devote their entire concentration to listening to you and performing the behavior skills instead of watching your physical motions as predictors of where and when the reward is coming. \nA side benefit of teaching and using this concept is that it incorporates “switching reinforcement” and also teaches “no”. If yes means “food from the hand”\, it also means not food on the ground\, or the ball on the chair\, or that other dog over there\, extending all the way up to “Not that deer”! Teaching your dog this concept with reinforcement you control can only benefit your training in sport and real life skills that often bring about interactions with reinforcement you cannot control. \nWhat you can expect in this seminar: \nWe’ll have our presentation in the morning and get out 3 times\, once with each other and twice with your dogs in groups to practice some marker cues. \nThen in the afternoon\, we’ll learn and practice offered focus in groups. This will be followed by a one-on-one session with each team where you get to work on one behavior\, strengthening it with what you have learned in the morning. \nSunday: Reducing Reinforcement\nThis one day seminar covers some of the subjects explained in my Spaces in Between and Cutting out the Cookie-Reducing Reinforcement classes from Fenzi Dog Sports Academy. I constantly see dogs that are excellent in their trial skills but get tired and unsure in those “in between” places. And then because they are tired\, it affects their trial performance. We need to put just as much time teaching those transitions\, the start and end rituals and systematically reducing the reinforcement so that come trial day\, the dog isn’t surprised and frustrated. \nSome of the concepts we might cover: \n\nStays of all kinds: hurry up and wait!\nRemote reinforcement places: off body\, on ground\, and why or why not we might teach this\nReady to Work protocol\nPaying for effort\, not for tasks/skills\nConnected/Loose leash walking with distractions\nReducing Reinforcement: random number time wise\nWhat are your cues? Is your behavior skill trained and trial legal\nVariable reward: violate your dogs expectations\nPatterns make confidence\, variability make listening\nStart and end rituals: clarity rules!\n\nWe won’t have a chance to cover all these in one day. I’ll evaluate what is most needed by the participants at the start of the day and take some input. \n\nOnline Registration\nFull Weekend Packages\nSign up for both days & save by using the links below!\nauditing spot both days ($150 + tax)  – save $50! \nIMPORTANT: After purchasing a full weekend package\, you still need to register! Use the single day registration links below to sign up yourself/your dog.  \nSingle Day Registration\n \nSaturday Auditing Spot ($100 + tax)\nSunday Auditing Spot ($100 + tax) \nAs of April 27th\, all working spots are sold out. Any cancellations will first be offered to registered auditors. \nCCPDT CEUs: Each day awards 7.5 Trainer Skills CEUs and 2 Trainer Knowledge CEUs. Have your CCPDT number easily accessible during the seminar. \n\nAbout the Instructor: Shade Whitesel\nShade Whitesel has been training and competing in dog sports since she was a kid. Always curious in how dogs learn\, she teaches people how to get along with their dogs in all behavior things\, as well as competing in the sports of IGP and AKC Obedience. \nThough Shade is owned by highly motivated working line German Shepherds and is known currently for her toy skills and marker cues classes (online through Fenzi Dog Sports Academy and in physical seminars)\, she especially enjoys teaching foundation skills to all manner of dogs and their people. Good training and learning starts at the beginning with clear reinforcement and motivation for both parties. \nSports wise; Shade enjoys IGP (Schutzhund) and AKC obedience. Her current dog Talic\, recently entered the AKC scene and scored 3 straight High in Trials earning his CD. He should be ready for the Open level this spring. \nAccess to Shade can be found at her website and she is on Instagram and Facebook. She currently has a Patreon page “Eye on Ion” that details out how to raise a young sport puppy. \n\nAbout the Host: Crossbones Dog Academy\nCrossbones Dog Academy is an 8\,000 square foot dog training\, daycare\, & retail facility located right off I-95 in Providence\, RI. SUMMARY:Emma Parsons Seminars: Connecting the Dots in Agility & You Talking to Me?! Attention Around Distractions
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 3rd: Connecting the Dots in Agility\nSunday\, August 4th: You Talking to Me?! Attention Around Distractions\n9AM-4PM each day \nAttend one day or both – the choice is yours! \nSaturday: Connecting the Dots in Agility\nIs your dog over-stimulated when you are working with them in agility? Do they hold their Start Line Stay? Once released\, do they start running the course? Or do they go off sniffing? Or maybe visit ring crew and possibly the Judge? Many times\, these sequences are accidental behavior chains that have been rehearsed countless times. Once identified\, they can be turned around\, and success can prevail. Foundation behaviors also must be tested\, and possibly redefined. \nIn this workshop\, you will have personalized help on how to better connect with your dog in the agility ring. We will go over necessary Foundation Behaviors as well as troubleshoot various behavior issues such as: reactivity in the queue\, disconnection while running the course\, fear of certain obstacles\, etc. \nVideo will be taken during this workshop and will be available to students at no extra charge. \nSunday: You Talking to Me?! Attention Around Distractions\nIt is common for dogs to struggle with focusing on their guardian in high distraction environments. We see this everywhere: in an obedience or agility class\, in the park\, in a veterinary office\, etc. For this dynamic to improve\, we\, as handlers\, need to understand Learning Theory as well as how and when reinforcements are given. \nThe goal is to create a behavior chain where the dog sees the distractions (whatever they are) as the cue to look at the handler voluntarily. The presence of the distraction in the environment becomes the cue to reorient to the handler. Once the handler has the dog’s attention\, they can cue a set of reliable behaviors. \nThis workshop is also for dogs who might bark and lunge in challenging circumstances. \n\nOnline Registration\nFull Weekend Packages\nSign up for both days & save $50 by using the links below!\nworking spot both days ($400 + tax)\none working\, one auditing ($275 + tax)\nauditing spot both days ($150 + tax) \nIMPORTANT: After purchasing a full weekend package\, you still need to register! DESCRIPTION:Location and arousal-dependent marker cues are becoming “a thing!” Learn why and how from one of the first trainers to use them in sport. We’ll practice them on each other first\, then teach your dogs the difference between at least two different marker cues and explore the possibilities for improving your communication\, along with the why. \nHave a dog that you want to use tugging or chase to reinforce behaviors? Have a dog that loves to chase but doesn’t love to bring the toy back? Have a dog with excellent toy skills but when you ask for obedience or agility skills\, it all deteriorates? This seminar covers how to harness those prey instincts into reinforcement that you can use in training. \nThese skills are part of an excellent foundation for all dog sports. \n  \nSaturday\, July 15th & Sunday\, July 16th \n8AM-4PM \n  \nWorking Spot: Teams will be chosen through an application process to ensure we have an interesting variety of dogs for auditors. Working attendees must have taken online courses with Shade (at any level including Bronze) and/or worked with her in person in the past. Working spots are $400 + tax. ONE SPOT LEFT! Click here to apply. \nAuditing Spot: $175 + tax. Click here to register. \n  \n***Approved for 21 CCPDT trainer CEUs!*** \nAbout the Instructor: Shade Whitesel \nShade Whitesel has been training and competing in dog sports since she was a kid.

SUMMARY:TAGteach Level 1 Certification Seminar
DESCRIPTION:TAGteach International is offering a seminar for professional certification of TAGteach instructors. Attendees will learn how to apply the marker-based positive reinforcement TAGteach method of teaching and coaching\, becoming popular in the US and around the world. \nTAGteach is a ground-breaking teaching technology used for fast-track learning in disciplines ranging from elite athletes\, non-verbal children with autism\, medical students\, dog trainers\, corporate training and everything in between. The all-positive tools of TAGteach create a comfortable and secure learning environment for students and teachers of any discipline and any skill level. TAGteach focuses on the success of the trainer and the student to ensure maximum teaching and learning efficiency. This is an exciting development in corporate training\, sport coaching\, classroom teaching and parenting\, which is accessible to everyone who teaches anything to anyone. \n“TAGteach is going to change the way I teach for the rest of my career. Without a doubt I would recommend this training to everybody. I like that I don’t have to correct them every time. The students are self-correcting because they either hear the tag or they don’t\, which is where the true learning happens”\, said Cheryl Anderson – Director of Instruction\, Mike Bender Golf Academy\, and 2006 National LPGA Teacher of the Year. \n“TAGteach has an important future in the treatment of autism and other developmental delays”\, said Joseph Morrow\, PhD\, BCBA-D\, President Applied Behavior Consultants Inc. and Professor of Psychology and Behavior Analysis\, California State University. \nSeminar attendee\, Anja Rudolf – University of Applied Science\, Ingolstadt\, Germany\, had this to say about the TAGteach certification seminar\, “I thought this was a great seminar\, but I had no idea of how it would change my life”. \nTAGteach certification will be of interest to teachers\, coaches and adult students as well as parents of children with special needs who wish to use positive and precise teaching tools. The 2-day seminars will bring together coaches and teachers from many disciplines to learn from TAGteach Faculty member Anne Wormald. \nAll registrations & event details are handled through TAGteach International. Please contact them with any questions. Click here to register!

SUMMARY:Click to Calm for Canine Confidence with Emma Parsons
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this seminar is to teach dogs to focus on their handlers in high distraction environments. These exercises will be perfect for the competition dog and handler team. \nWe will begin by reviewing the new Click to Calm protocol (the presence of the trigger IS the cue to look at the handler) as well as work on necessary Foundation Behaviors such as the Back Up Sit\, Get Behind and Re-orienting. We will also explore the role eye contact plays when building certain behaviors. \nFaulty behavior chains will also be explored: how the handler thinks they are helping the dog\, while in fact\, it is creating more destructive behavior. \nFun games will be played towards teaching specific skills like acclimating dogs to the movement of other dogs\, (Parallel Jumping or Heeling) navigating small spaces in public areas safely (Follow the Leader) and teaching dogs to better tolerate the “head to head” movement towards other dogs. (Musical Chairs or Magical Hoops) Novel stimuli will be used to add complexity to the exercises. \nCEUs pending. \nSaturday\, June 10th & Sunday\, June 11th\n9AM to 4PM \nWorking Spot: $375 + tax\, limit 8. Click here to register!\nAuditing Spot: $175 + tax\, limit 20.
